You
might wonder why I picked Prayer Walking as a series topic on Epiphany this October. The reason
is, there’s a war going on and we need more soldiers. Prayer and prayer walking
is a powerful weapon against Satan and we don’t do nearly enough. Our only two offensive
weapons against evil forces are prayer and the Word of God. And if we combine
the two—oh boy—that’s serious fighting!
Several
years ago I wrote Taking Back October,
to help people become aware and to get busy!
Halloween is not just an innocent holiday for kids to dress up and collect
candy. I grew up thinking it was fun and harmless,
until I learned what goes on behind the scenes. There’s a dark side behind the cute
and colorful masks of the season.
The themes
of Halloween are fear, darkness, death, witchcraft and the occult. Jesus came
that we might have courage, walk in the light, experience new life, and worship
and serve only the one true God. I can’t in good conscience celebrate or
promote this holiday; there’s nothing redeemable in it. But there are a lot of
fun things we can be doing to celebrate the beauty of fall and give all glory to God.
It’s
important what we do with our time—to be in the world but not of it. It’s
important what we think and what we say and what we teach our children. And it’s
important to take a stand for what is right and true and good.
There’s a little
known Christian holiday, All Saints’ Day, on November 1 that’s worth our
time, attention, and participation. Find out more about it and how you can enjoy good clean fun all month long in my book Taking
Back October: https://www.amazon.com/Taking-Back-October-Believers-Pursuit/dp/1502516292/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1508458137&sr=8-1&keywords=taking+back+october
More than that, ask the Lord what else He would have you do to overcome evil with
good.
Halloween is
the high holy day for Satan worshipers and believe me, they are actively serving
their lord. Behind the laughter and candy, they are praying, offering sacrifices,
practicing ritual abuse, and casting spells. What are we doing to counteract these
efforts? Taking our kids to haunted houses and telling them it’s make believe?
There’s no such thing as “scary fun.”
